A lot of people aren’t huge fans of rap music for understandable reasons. The exuberant baselines and harsh vocals can be deterring for some. However, some of those same people would swear by the poetry of Robert Frost or Nikki Giovanni.

For this series I will choose the rappers that have songs that remind me of poetry. At the end of the day, you have to be willing to read rap and digest it to begin understanding the diversity in the American black community. I hope that these lyrics are inspiring or enlightening. Either way, I greatly appreciate the rapper-griots that continue the tradition of verbally transmitting black stories. Click The Art of Music & Verse below.
