Current~ish For the Culture

Kodak Black. Expeditiously.

April 10, 2019

Let’s talk Kodak Black-

In a world of cancel culture, I am hesitant to write someone off.

Because I believe that people can grow.

HOWEVER comma —

There are some people that we just need to leave where they are at!!

One of those people is Kodak Black.

For one, he’s trash.

Like, have you ever seen him perform live? —

… I found the best for you. The BEST.

Ughh, if not don’t waste your money, but more importantly, don’t waste your time.

Then, there’s the open sexual assault case that he has…he’s going to trial this month so we will see what comes of that.

None of those things caused me to completely cancel him — he was simply on the pending cancellation list.

But Kodak Black has been placed on the permanent cancellation list due to his comments to Lauren London, girlfriend of the slain rapper Nipsey Hussle.

“Lauren London, that baby, though. She about to be out here single, I’ll be the best man I can be for her. I’ll give her a whole year. She might need a whole year to be crying and (expletive) for (Hussle)… I ain’t trying to shoot (my shot) at her … I’m saying, listen. She can do two, three years. I’ll try to be like the friend if you need to holler or a shoulder to lean on. She can call my line.”

These comments were totally out of line.

While this woman is grieving the man she called her sanctuary, this man who physically resembles an electrocuted roach is trying to get at her.

The most disrespectful part of it was that he did this while Hussle’s music was playing —

Ignoring those in the background trying to correct him.

And that’s why he is canceled.

Because even as he was wrong and those around him tried to gently correct him he ignored them and kept on with his statement.

Then a day later tried to release a half-ass apology, which only came after he received flack from the public.

The only positive that came of this situation was the peers of Nispey who stood up to defend Lauren London. T.I. took to social media to inform and alert Black that he was “outta pocket.”

Tank, The Game, Big Boy and a host of others also spoke out against Black’s comments. It felt good to see black men hold another black man accountable, and say NOT ON MY WATCH. *iyanla voice*

I am eager to see how this situation fully plays out for Black.

But right now I’m handling Black using the words of Neighborhood Nip “put dude on goofy time, and let him sit over there do what he do til that shit expire.” Aka- He’s canceled. Until further notice.

Always a pleasure to work with the Queen. Especially debuting our newest goal at Herstun which is to cover a cultural event every Wednesday morning or maybe, every other Wed morning. We got kids and ish y‘all. But loftily, we hope to always reserve Wednesday morning for a cultural reflection, something people in the American black community are talking about frequently, whether the topic is the latest and greatest or just something random we want to bring up. Thanks for rocking with us on the Queendom, exclusively on Herstun FM Readio.

    1. I was through with him a long time ago. I was absolutely disgusted by what he said about Young MA.
I’m curious when it’s appropriate to approach a widow. Obviously before the funeral is a no but when?

      1. I think for now especially in such a case like this the best thing would be not to approach at all. It takes a long time to get over a loved one not just physically but emotionally, if it’s rushed she might just keep comparing the next guy to her late husband. I really don’t think there’s a specific time limit

    2. I agree! He should definitely of been cancelled long ago- but I’m glad hip hop has finally gotten the message.
