BBW

Blank. Black. Woman.

She can be so many things, this BBW.

A vehicle of your tortured mind…

Or.

Beautiful Black Woman.

She is the Backbone of the family

But only when it’s convenient To You

Exhausting Her Energy

Creating resentment due to lack of reciprocity

Turning a bit Bitter is she?

Your Blank Black Woman.

She genuinely appreciates what She is perceived to Be

I mean –

Bold Black Woman

Who wouldn’t be?

Beautiful Black Woman

But even the tree of life needs to be nourished to continue to provide vitality.

And

Isn’t a leader just an arrogant individual without a team?

So.

What exactly do you expect Her to be without a mutual exchange of energy?

Your Blank Black Woman

And when interrogations are formed due to a lack of understanding

Then genuine concern is equated to some type of nagging…

She is constantly fighting for her right to be…

HERSELF.

She’s constantly battling against the conformities of society

Like speaking up for who she is means she’s just a –

Bitter Black Woman.

Suddenly her Beauty is lost and her Velvevty Blackness turned Burnt

Turning Bitter is she?

Your Blank Black Woman.

So She must submit to what they want Her to Be…
SILENT

Physically existing without a voice of Her Own

Like Mama used to say…

beautiful black girls should be seen and not heard…

blank black girls.

Feeling like an outcast because She wants to think for Herself.

Beautiful Black Girl.

No one is saying …

That This Woman is Perfect by any means…

She cusses like a sailor…

And I ain’t saying she a gold digga

But Stephen Curry is golden enough to be a Nugget in her eyes.

Yet she can embrace all of this with no regard to who it bothers...

In Her mind, it’s Her Destiny

This Beautiful Black Woman is living in the Age of Disappointments

Surrounded by lowered expectations

The new normalcy creates an apprehension that is inevitable…

The Background just doesn’t Befit

This Bold Black Woman.

Her own family has stabbed Her.

I repeat —

Her own family has stabbed her, more than two or three…

Times.

It’s the times you see.

That have turned this blank black girl

Away from Being a Blank Black Woman

So excuse Her if She questions your motives.

She is still being conditioned on a daily.

Tone it down

No one cares about your opinion

It’s nothing personal

She has even questioned HIM after receiving a multitude of blessings.

Please understand that although She feuds with almost every one in Her World –

It’s not intentional…

She just sees their potential

And she is constantly combating the the generational poverty beating down her front door...

It’s a mental prison

And most don’t know how to escape

But she has found the key…

So strong and resilient, now is she…

Too Bold?

Bitter?

Or Beautiful?

Or is she just –

FREE

Not Your Blank Black Woman

As of today…

She is unconfined and unconstrained mentally –

Redefining what it means to be a Beautiful Black Woman in Our Society

Empowering others through Her own trials and tribulations…

Destined to make an impact in Her Community…

SHE

IS

A

BBW

Whatever that has to mean.

Proudly.

FEATURING ILLUSTRATING CHRISTY

Written By Nessla1 with W.D. Herstun.

I fell immediately in love with the work of Illustrating Christy. She had a lot of variety in her styles and she featured black women in the most amazing ways. I loved the diversity.
Nessla1 brought me a poem that I think every single black woman in America may be able to identify. Hell, maybe even most women in general. She killed this one and collaborating with her produces the most beautiful poetry. Literally.
The subject is so poignant because It can be frustrating being everything to everyone whenever you can, but then not necessarily receiving that love on the returning end. I think it causes black women to be afraid at times.
But it also requires resilience. And it is that resilience that has borne the notoriously strong black matriarch that is holding it all together.
Rather than this image becoming the stuff of legends, it feels like those strong black matriarchs are just getting younger and younger.
Awesome work between three women of color. I loved it. I can’t wait for the next.
Her chosen quote say it all.

    1. Thank you, I was trying to portray the struggle and conflict we go through within ourselves, expectations in relationships, and society
