Nick’s Pick is a series born from two amazing articles. Our basketball analyst, Nick Andre, forecasted the development of LaMelo Ball and the drafting of Amir Hinton. And so here we are jumping the season off with an article full of Nick’s Picks!
Happy NBA Jump-Off!
What a year this season is projected to be.
With all of the blockbuster moves during the off-season, we can expect a season full of thrillers, as we will see which teams go toe-to-toe in the 2020 NBA Playoffs.
This season is the first season in over a decade that there is not, one team but multiple teams that have the potential to win the NBA Title. We should see competitive action throughout the entire year.
Nick’s Pick is my prediction on what will happen through the course of the season.
Los Angeles Clippers: With the new addition of superstars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers are taking a massive step after having a pretty solid season a year ago. Last year they ended a very short playoff run by taking the two-time defending champion Warriors to six games in the first round. I’m sure Kawhi and his camp saw the potential in the Clippers and wanted to be apart of a growing movement.
Nick’s Pick: The Clippers will end the 2019 – 2020 regular season with 60 wins and 22 losses.
James Harden: Yes, he has been complaining all summer about not winning the MVP a season ago. That is why James Harden is motivated this season to win the MVP Award. Despite averaging 35 points per game a season ago, it was not enough for the MVP trophy as the Rockets had a very much up and down season despite Harden’s spectacular numbers. With Russell Westbrook as his new running mate, we will see where Harden can take this team this year and where they will be placed in the Western Conference by the end of the season.
Nick’s Pick: James Harden will put up spectacular numbers alongside his newish running mate Russell Westbrook.
Rookie Of The Year
Zion Williamson: Zion Williamson will not win the rookie award due to his stellar preseason play, but because he will be a dominant factor for the Pelicans if he remains healthy all season. This will be a challenge for Zion as he transitions from the college level to the professional level. We will see many rim-rattling dunks along with him running the pick and roll all season long.
Nick’s Pick: Zion will average 18 points and 9 rebounds for the Pelicans in his first season.
Defensive Player Of The Year
Paul George: If there is anything that is underrated about his game, it is his defense. Paul George has been one of the League’s elite defenders. And 2020 is his year to win the award. On media day this year, George let the crowd know that the Clippers would be scary. There is no doubt that Doc Rivers will look to his two superstars in Kawhi and PG to be the defensive anchors of the team, and George will give other guards a nightmare on offense. Expect a big year defensively once again out of George.
Most Improved Player
Ben Simmons: People may not like all the hype around the three-pointer that Simmons made early in the preseason, but he most definitely deserves the praise at this time. Simmons has spent all summer working on his offensive game. He will showcase his improved talent for Philadelphia this season. We know that he’s an elite slasher. And he can dish out assists with his phenomenal court vision, but adding a jump shot to his game will make Simmons a more dynamic player on the offensive end. Expect a much improved year out of Simmons this season.
Nick’s Pick: Simmons improves his field goal percentage drastically while also pushing his game further beyond the arc.
New Orleans Pelicans: The Pelicans will for sure make the playoffs this season. After giving up their dynamic superstar in Anthony Davis, the franchise was able to grab some key players in the trade-in Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram. So with new additions in Zion, Lonzo, JJ Reddick, and Ingram, along with returning players as in Jrue Holiday and Jahlil Okafor, expect for Head Coach Alvin Gentry to develop this team and have them compete every night for a playoff spot.
Nick’s Pick: The Pelicans will shock the world and grab the 8th seed in the Western Conference.
Coach Of The Year
Doc Rivers: Doc Rivers is the perfect head coach for this Clippers team. With Rivers having a championship on his coaching resume alongside having elite players in Kawhi and Paul George on his team, this is the perfect position for Rivers to lead this team to a championship this year. “We have good players, smart players, High IQ players who know the game of basketball” Rivers stated about his team.
Nick’s Pick: You can expect some throwback genius from Doc Rivers leading a loaded LA Clippers squad.
Lebron & AD: It’s ridiculous to believe that two of the top 5 players in the NBA won’t co-exist on the same team. After everything that has happened for him a season ago, LeBron James is looking to have a redemption year as he is looking to bring a championship back to LA, and this time with all-star Anthony Davis.
Let’s play some basketball.
It is too close to predict who will win the NBA Championship this season, but every team will show us that they are at least a little capable of being that team who can win it all. This NBA season will be filled with nothing but excitement and will have us jumping out of our seats after every play.
I hope everyone enjoys a long exciting season and makes the most out of every game!

Nick has me hype to watch the basketball season. I don’t know if I have many different predictions, although I think we could watch for Anthony Davis pushing for an MVP. Playing alongside Lebron will both help and hurt his argument. If the Golden State Warriors display any level of dominance, then Steve Kerr and Steph Curry will probably bounce around the MVP and Coach of the Year conversations. And my people, never ever forget the GREEK FREEEAAAKK.
My surprising team of the year is the Atlanta Hawks, and because I think the Hawks will surprise people, I believe that point guard, Trae Young has a shot at the most improved player. Big shout out to Young N’ Fly Sports Guy on the tip.
I also think that the best duo in the league could be up for grabs too. We have young duos still being built. And you can’t help but watch for Kristaps Porzingis and Luka Doncic in Dallas.
The big key this year will be: Who can stay healthy?
